Introduction
The Favre-Leuba Sea Sky belongs to a particularly interesting generation of Swiss sports chronographs created as manufacturers responded to the increasingly adventurous character of watchmaking during the 1960s and 1970s. Rather than being conceived simply as a conventional chronograph, the Sea Sky combined elapsed-time functionality with a substantial stainless steel case and rotating timing bezel, creating a watch whose design was firmly rooted in utility. At 39mm, its dimensions were notably generous for the period and gave the Sea Sky the presence expected of a purpose-built sports watch.
Reference 33033 reinforces that character with a highly legible black dial, contrasting silver registers and large luminous hands, all surrounded by its distinctive rotating bezel. Beneath the dial is one of the great chronograph movements of the era: the manually wound Valjoux calibre 72. Its column-wheel architecture became the foundation for some of the most celebrated chronographs of the twentieth century, and its presence gives the Sea Sky mechanical substance to match its imposing exterior.

THE DIAL
The black dial uses three contrasting silver registers, white printing and large luminous hands to create a highly legible chronograph display. Age has given the luminous plots a darker appearance, while the silver registers have developed noticeable discolouration, adding considerable individual character to the otherwise strongly functional design.

THE CONSTRUCTION
The 39mm stainless steel case was substantial by contemporary standards and reinforces the Sea Sky's tool-watch character. Its rotating timing bezel adds another practical element beyond the chronograph itself, while the case back retains its engraving and serial number. The acrylic bezel insert and crystal further reflect the watch's period construction.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
Watch is in overall very good condition. The stainless steel case remains well defined, with scratches and nicks consistent with a watch of this vintage. The case back shows wear but retains a clearly defined engraving and serial number. The bezel is well preserved, while the acrylic insert shows some delamination. The dial displays signs of ageing with darkened lume plots, and the sub dials show noticeable discolouration. The lume in the hour and minute hands has been redone. The acrylic crystal has some visible scuffs. The watch is fitted with a black Tropic strap with steel pin buckle.
Please note: The watch ticks at time of cataloging, but timekeeping is poor and a service is recommended.
Our Perspective
The Sea Sky is a compelling reminder that the great sports chronographs of the period extended well beyond the familiar names. Its oversized-for-the-era case, rotating bezel and Valjoux 72 movement give it genuine tool-watch credentials, while the contrasting registers and naturally aged dial deliver the character collectors seek in vintage chronographs. Reference 33033 remains an interesting and comparatively unconventional expression of Favre-Leuba at its most adventurous.
