Introduction
Founded in 1992 by Franck Muller and Vartan Sirmakes, Franck Muller quickly established itself as one of the most inventive names in contemporary Swiss watchmaking. While the brand is best known today for its distinctive tonneau-shaped cases and colourful dials, its earliest creations were classically proportioned round watches that drew heavily on the great chronographs of the 1930s and 1940s. Produced in relatively small numbers, these early references have become increasingly appreciated for combining traditional aesthetics with modern Swiss engineering.
This Luminous Up Down Chronograph is one of the finest expressions of that philosophy. Crafted in 18K white gold, it pairs a beautifully executed white dial with a black chapter ring carrying luminous Arabic numerals, while a striking red telemeter scale frames the outer edge of the dial. Featuring an up/down bi-compax chronograph layout, it blends vintage-inspired styling with practical complications, creating one of Franck Muller's most distinctive early chronographs.

THE DIAL
The beautifully balanced white dial features a contrasting black chapter ring with luminous Arabic numerals, while the vivid red telemeter scale around the periphery provides a bold splash of colour and a snailed blue tachymeter in the center. Combined with the symmetrical up/down chronograph registers, the result is a wonderfully legible dial inspired by classic mid-century scientific chronographs.
THE CONSTRUCTION
The polished 36mm 18K white gold case offers elegant proportions that wear beautifully on the wrist. Strong stepped lugs and pump pushers reinforce its vintage-inspired character.

Condition
Watch is in overall excellent condition. The 18K white gold case shows light surface marks and scratches to the lugs. The case back retains well-defined engravings and hallmarks. There is some oxidation around the chronograph pushers, while the winding crown shows light surface scratches. The dial is in near-mint condition, and the blued hands remain very clean. It is fitted with a black leather strap and an 18K white gold pin buckle.
Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.

Early round Franck Muller chronographs remain one of independent watchmaking's best-kept secrets.
