Having sold his “Gerald Genta” brand to Bulgari in 2000, Gerald Genta decided to found a second brand of his own using his first and middle name during the very same year before eventually selling the brand to the Ziviani family in 2003, with him remaining as the Chief Designer until his death in 2011. Founded with the intention of creating bespoke timepieces using Genta’s designs, the brand would eventually expand in 2019 while under the direction of then-new CEO Federico Ziviani by predominately using the Maestro case design that Genta had designed in 2005. Offered here as part of that collection of watches, this is the Maestro 2.0 Ultra-Thin ref. GC2.0-A-002 in stainless steel, launched in 2021. Boasting an octagonal shape, with the central lower side being a distinctively bowed shape to allow for the date aperture at 6 o’clock, the Maestro 2.0 is a wonderfully modern take on one of Genta’s designs. Fit with a green sunburst dial and a stepped bezel, the Maestro 2.0 is immediately recognisable as a Gerald Charles watch, as is the strength of Genta’s design language.

The watch is in near-mint condition. There are scuffs on the polished bezel, but overall the stainless steel case shows only signs of careful wear and remains near-mint. The case back is very clean with crisp engravings. The dial and hands are like new. It is fitted with a rubber strap and a stainless steel pin buckle, both in near-mint condition. The watch is accompanied by its inner and outer boxes, warranty card, and booklet.

Paying homage to Gerald Genta's work by popularizing his lesser-known designs, the Maestro 2.0 Ultra-Thin shines a light on his work that otherwise would have faded into obscurity had it not been for his second brand Gerald Charles.
