Girard-Perregaux Laureto Perpetual

How do I bid? Start here

Introduction

First created in 1975 hot on the heels of the AP Royal Oak, the Girard Perregaux Laureato is one of watchmaking’s original stainless steel sports watches. Today, its legacy lives on with its consistent design language and GP’s high-end craftsmanship. Announced in late 2018 and unveiled officially at SIHH 2019, the GP Laureato Perpetual Calendar was launched as a part of the collection’s refresh that began in 2016. With its case featuring the same strong lines and a variety of surface finishes, this new addition to the collection builds upon the Laureato’s fan-favorite design while modernizing its capabilities. Water-resistant to an impressive 100m, for a perpetual calendar, the Laureato’s 42mm stainless steel case stands at just 11.8mm tall and houses GP’s complex in-house cal. GP01800-0033 movement. Fitted with an interesting asymmetrical dial with various textures and finishes, just like its case and bracelet, the Laureato’s consistent and cohesive design language shines through, ensuring this relatively new offering from GP remains modern for years to come. With a beautiful view of its finely-finished movement, this variant carefully straddles the line between utilitarian watchmaking and Haute Horlogerie with perfectly poised execution.

Our Perspective

One of the earliest entrants into the high-end sports watch market, the Laureato has long been ignored by collectors in favor of other household names. However, it has developed a strong fanbase in recent years, with collectors beginning to flock to this interesting and historic watch as they understand the value this beautiful timepiece represents in today's market.
