Introduction
Founded in 1791 and best known for their fine watches, Girard Perregaux are one of the oldest watchmakers in the world that are still in operation. Over the many decades of their long-running history, Girard-Perregaux has become synonymous with interesting design, impressive craftsmanship, and beautiful timepieces. Offered here we have the Rallye Montecarlo 1976 Sport Chrono that Girard Perregaux launched in 2006 as a limited edition of 1000 pieces to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Sandro Munari’s victory in the 1976 Monte-Carlo Rallye Automobile, a rally devised in 1909 to be used as a way to promote Monaco as a tourist destination. Boasting a 40mm stainless steel case, the ref. 49541 features colourful dial furniture and a no-frills construction that combine to create a functional tool watch that features some aesthetic decoration, a bit like a rally car itself.
