Introduction

Offered here we have an exquisite second series Grand Seiko 4420-9000, a vintage timepiece that stands as a testament to the esteemed heritage of the 44GS series. Originally launched in late 1967 and produced until 1969, this model is an evolution of the renowned King Seiko, showcasing the exceptional craftsmanship of the Daini Seikosha factory. While its availability spanned a mere two years, the 44GS left an indelible mark by introducing the Grand Seiko "Grammar of Design," conceived by the visionary designer Taro Tanaka. With the recent global prominence of the Grand Seiko brand, the 44GS has gained recognition as the pioneering collection that established the iconic Grand Seiko style. Embodying nine enduring design elements, this timepiece captivates with its timeless appeal. Contrasting with the modern range, vintage pieces from this era exhibit daring and innovative designs, reflecting an era of true horological exploration. With only three distinct models produced, and even fewer when disregarding subtle dial variations, it presents an accessible path to ownership. This particular 4420-9000 example, featuring a stainless steel case, features a second series silver dial with the 'Daini' Logo at 6 o'clock underneath its Grand Seiko inscription which was the logo of the Daini Seikosha company, which was a separate Seiko factory. A wonderfully elegant timepiece with wearable proportions and a gorgeous construction, it is no surprise the 44GS case has grown to become so popular.
