Grand Seiko Automatic GMT Toge Special Edition SBGM241

Introduction

Inspired by the incredible SBGM221, the stunning ivory-dialed GMT timepiece that blurs the lines between a dress watch and a casual everyday watch, the SBGM241 that we have here is a collaborative effort between Japanese watchmaker Grand Seiko and famed British watch retailer Watches of Switzerland to celebrate the legacies of each respective company. Combining classic British Racing Green as its dial color with Grand Seiko's signature Mount Iwate texture, the SBGM241’s resulting dial is that of sheer beauty. Nicknamed 峠 (Tōgè), or mountain pass, the SBGM241 refers to a navigable route through a mountain range, and this special edition timepiece subtly evokes the image of a spirited drive over the many ridges of Mount Iwate in Northern Japan thanks to its stunning green dial. Immensely capable and robust, the SBGM241 is powered by the cal. 9S66 automatic movement, which it houses within its 39.5mm stainless steel case, as designed by Grand Seiko Chief Designer Nobuhiro Kosugi, who is celebrated for his conception of the modern 44GS case design. With its moon-shaped profile and a plethora of Zaratsu polishing, Grand Seiko’s signature, the SBGM241’s construction, and craftsmanship combine to create a timepiece that is utterly stunning and deserving of its position as a timepiece to signify a collaboration between two iconic brands within the watchmaking industry.

THE DIAL

Displaying Grand Seiko's outstanding craftsmanship, the SBGM241's dial is just out of this world. It blends green and orange, two colors we seldom see paired on a watch dial, with a texture that we rarely see either, for a staggeringly beautiful end result.

THE MOVEMENT

Powered by the cal. 9S66, the SBGM241 is tested to Grand Seiko's stringent -3 to +5 seconds per day Grand Seiko Standard in static conditions across six positions. The cal. 9S66 also features a rather capable 72-hour power reserve.
