Introduction
Released as a modern recreation of the original Grand Seiko timepieces that Seiko released back in 1960, the SBGW285 was launched as part of Grand Seiko’s Elegance collection in 2022. Sized like a typical dress watch, the SBGW285 features a round 37.3mm stainless steel case that is just 11.6mm thick and a set of long angular lugs that feature polished bevels that sharpen-up its design. Powered by the manually wound cal. 9S64 movement, the SBGW283 features 72 hours of power reserve and remains linked to the original Grand Seiko watches that it is inspired by. With a stunning domed dark green dial inspired by inspired by Byōka, which marks the transition from summer to autumn and the deep green of forest tree leaves, the SBGW285 celebrates nature at its finest. With almost no inscriptions besides Grand Seiko’s name under their applied logo and minute markers next to the applied hour markers, the SBGW285’s dial is reminiscent of the dress watches of old with its understated design, under-the-radar craftsmanship and gorgeous subtle texture across its surface.

Inspired by the turning of Summer into Autumn, the SBGW285's dark green display is nature-themed like so many of Grand Seiko's other pieces, with a subtle grainy texture capping off what is a stunning dial.
THE CONSTRUCTION
Flying under the radar as a stainless steel watch, the SBGW285 clearly showcases Grand Seiko's impressive craftsmanship for those who are willing to look for it with its Zaratsu polished bezel and lug hoods along with its sharp lug bevels.

An elegant and classy watch that feeds off of Grand Seiko's understated nature-inspired design language, the SBGW285 is excellently finished throughout its construction and display and comes powered by some impressive watchmaking, especially at this price point.
