How do I bid? Start here

Introduction

Launched in 2018 as a part of a trio of references that were Grand Seiko’s first ever US-only collection, the Grand Seiko SBGA384 was only sold in US Grand Seiko boutiques as a limited edition collection of just 50 pieces. Offered as part of the Heritage Collection, the SBGA384 is a stunning 18kt rose gold timepiece that combines Grand Seiko’s infamously well-finished constructions with their beautiful dials and movements. Powered by the Spring Drive cal. 9R15 and thus accurate to +/- 10 seconds a month, the SBGA384 is a technically exquisite timepiece indeed. Speaking to Grand Seiko’s desire to showcase the best of Japanese artistry and craftsmanship, the SBGA384’s stunning silver dial draws inspiration from the Japanese painting technique called “Kira-zuri”, meaning “sparkling painting.” As a result, the SBGA384’s silver dial features a gentle texture like that found in Kira-zuri paintings. With rose gold applied hour markers and hands to match its 40mm case, the SBGA384 is a cohesively constructed and beautifully elegant timepiece that firmly deserves its place within Grand Seiko’s first-ever batch of US-exclusive timepieces.

THE DIAL
THE DIAL

With its 18kt rose gold dial furniture and beautifully understated Kirz-zuri texture, the SBGA384's silver dial is a wonderful reminder of why Grand Seiko's displays are so highly regarded in the world of watchmaking.

THE CONSTRUCTION
THE CONSTRUCTION

Made of 18kt rose gold and featuring a modern reinterpretation of Grand Seiko's signature 44GS case design from 1967, the SBGA384 will certainly be a familiar presence on the wrist of any Grand Seiko enthusiast thanks to its iconic design.

THE MOVEMENT
THE MOVEMENT

Combining the best of quartz with the best of self-winding, the Spring Drive cal. 9R15 is accurate within just +/- 10 seconds per month all while lacking the need for a battery.

Condition

Watch is in near-mint condition, with only minor signs of wear. There are some small marks visible on the bezel surface, some minor oxidation on back lug corners, as well as a few light marks on the clasp.

Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.

Our Perspective

Aesthetically astounding, technically impressive, and a genuine rarity, the SBGA384 marked a change in the tides at Grand Seiko; the end of their reluctance to offer exclusive models to markets besides their domestic market, Japan.
