Introduction
Produced by a team of artisans in Seiko's Micro Artist Studio in Shiojiri, Japan, the Grand Seiko Spring Drive SBGD202 was launched in 2017 as one of the first models to ever be produced by the Micro Artist Studio; a famed group of artisan watchmakers known for their exceptional craftsmanship. While not a limited edition piece, the Micro Artist Studio can only create about 20 watches a year in total, and so the SBGD202 is a tremendously limited watch, thus leading to its extreme rarity on the open market. Boasting a hand-made rose gold frosted black dial with the original Seiko and GS script, the SBGD202’s display perfectly suits its exceptional Zaratsu polished 43mm 18kt rose gold case, with hand polished applied hour markers and hands, which shine with an intense brightness befitting of how the Micro Artist Studio’s exacting standards. Inspired by nature, like so many of Grand Seiko’s other pieces, the SBGD202 is inspired by the starry sky in Shinshu. Powered by the hand-wound cal. 9R01 Spring Drive movement, the SBGD202 comes with an eight-day power reserve indicator mounted to the back of the finely finished movement bridge that mirror the SBGD202’s stunning dial and completes the timepiece’s stunningly elegant design on both its front and back.

THE DIAL
Sporting a stunning black rose gold frosted dial, the SBG202's display is inspired by the starry night sky over Shinshu, which is the area that Seiko's Micro Artist Studio is in, where this watch was made.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Made of 18kt rose gold, the SBGD202's 43mm diameter hosts an entirely polished case, with a polished bezel, polished bevels, and polished lugs and mid-case - all of which combine to create a wonderfully bright timepiece.

THE MOVEMENT
Boasting a hand-finished and exceptionally well-executed manual-wind spring drive cal. 9R01 movement, the SBGD202 showcases the finest example of craftsmanship within Seiko's remit as a watchmaker.
Condition
Watch is in overall near-mint condition. The rose gold case shows signs of careful wear, with surface scuffs and marks, and has developed a patina. The display case back retains well-defined engravings and stamps around the edge. The black dial with gold dust remains like new, as do the hands. It is fitted with a brown crocodile strap in excellent condition and a rose gold deployant clasp showing some light oxidation and surface marks. Comes complete with inner and outer boxes, blank warranty card, booklet, and numbered hangtag.
Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.
Our Perspective
Exploring some of the finest craftsmanship that Seiko has to offer, the SBGD202 was one of the first Grand Seikos ever created by the Micro Artist Studio, a small group of watchmakers who became famous for their Masterpiece Collection, which the SBGD202 belongs to.
