Founded by husband-and-wife duo Richard and Maria Habring in the small town of Völkermarkt, Austria, Habring2 produce some of the most understated and technically impressive timepieces on the market for their relatively affordable price points. Among their long list of accomplishments is the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) award that their Doppel 2 won in 2012 in the sports watch category. Building on that success, Habring2 launched the Doppel 3 with just 20 pieces produced each year. Perhaps the most technically challenging model within the Doppel family is the Doppel 3.1 that we have here. Already complex as a split-second monopusher chronograph, the Doppel 3.1 blows its sibling references aside with its centrally-located chronograph minute hands. Swapping the chronograph minute subdial that is typically found at 3 o’clock for the central hand, the Doppel 3.1 only features one subdial, the running seconds subdial at 9 o’clock. An impressive feat even for a blue-chip brand, this is an incredible accomplishment for a small production indie watchmaker like Habring2. It just goes to demonstrate the impressive watchmaking talents the Austrian brand has managed to cultivate.
