Introduction
Founded by husband-and-wife duo Richard and Maria Habring in the small town of Völkermarkt, Austria, Habring2 produce some of the most understated and technically impressive timepieces on the market for their relatively affordable price points. Among their long list of accomplishments is the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) award that their Doppel 2 won in 2012 in the sports watch category. Building on that success, Habring2 have launched plenty of incredible watches, with their Erwin Jumping Seconds being one of them. Offered here as part of that collection we have the Erwin Pilot Jumping Seconds. Taking the incredible Erwin Jumping Seconds platform and adapting it into a pilot’s watch, this timepiece is both mechanically astute and aesthetically impressive. Boasting a 38.5mm stainless steel case, it measures an impressively thin 9mm tall, and features a roughly textured black dial with luminous cathedral hands that are both filled with fauxtina to give the watch a vintage feel. Powered by Habring2’s in-house manual-wind cal. A11MS that includes a deadbeat function, so that it drives the second hand only once per second, giving it the appearance of a quartz watch - an impressive feat even for a blue-chip brand - this is an incredible accomplishment for a small production indie watchmaker like Habring2. It just goes to demonstrate the impressive watchmaking talents the Austrian brand has managed to cultivate.

THE DIAL
Boasting a rough texture to give the black dial a non-reflective matte finish, this vintage-inspired pilot watch's display is as functional as it is well-executed.

THE MOVEMENT
Developed, manufactured, and assembled in Austria, the Erwin Pilot is powered by Habring's in-house Calibre A11MS movement, which features a module that powers its deadbeat seconds hand that announces itself via its quartz movement-like jumping motion.

Our Perspective
Combining functional watch design with impressive horological muscle-flexing, this deadbeat seconds-powered Pilot's watch would be an almighty achievement for a blue chip watchmaker, and so from a small indie like Habring2 it is a tremendous show of watchmaking will and technical prowess.
