Introduction
No, your eyes don’t deceive you. We were just as surprised to see this land on our desk as you are to be reading this description – it’s not every day one of the rarest and most infamous product launches within the entire watchmaking industry finds themselves on the open market, yet here we are. Needing no introduction, but we’ll introduce it anyway, this is the Hodinkee Eight-Day Travel Clock, but you probably knew that already. Debuting in 2020 as an intended limited edition run of 96 pieces, the Hodinkee Eight-Day Travel Clock received some rather… let’s say; “constructive criticism”. Rarer than hen's teeth, only one or two of these legendary clocks has surfaced since its announcement, leading many to speculate if it was even produced, or if the entire production run was destroyed or abandoned in a warehouse in Long Island City. Featuring a goat leather-wrapped exterior, a new-old-stock Pontifa cal. 7320 eight-day movement and a large grey dial to match its Hodinkee grey exterior, this travel clock is entirely monochromatic and luxuriously constructed. Boasting a typeface on the dial that Hodinkee had created specifically for the Eight-Day Travel Clock called “Decimal,” the travel clock pays homage to the vintage wristwatches produced during the same era as its new-old-stock Pontifa movement. Igniting some intense discourse at launch, this is one travel clock that is sure to be a genuine conversation starter for whoever gets to add it to their collection.

THE DIAL
Featuring the "Decimal" font that was designed specifically for the Travel Clock, this timepiece recalls the aesthetics of the wristwatches that were popular when its Pontifa movement was created. Grey like its goat leather-wrapped construction, the Travel Clock's dial is elegantly executed with a subtle fade from its bright center to its dark peripheries.

USING THE TRAVEL CLOCK
Featuring five different controls on its back, the Travel Clock's alarm function is set by the highest arbor with the alarm label printed on it. This arbor must only be turned counterclockwise. The time is set using the arbor just beneath it on the left by turning the same key clockwise. The next two arbors wind the movement and the alarm separately, as labelled, and the lowest arbor turns the alarm function on or off.

Our Perspective
Attaining a level of notoriety that has seldom been seen in the watch world, the Hodinkee Travel Clock has become, arguably, one of the most infamous product launches within the watchmaking industry and thus become more collectible than any of us could have imagined. We are proud to bring to market the first example of this magnificent relic of horological history available for auction.
