Introduction
Founded in 2012 by Lucien Vouillamoz in Neuchatel, Switzerland, HYT is a watchmaker that was created with the specific idea of telling the time using liquid. A completely new concept that hadn’t been broached in watchmaking before, HYT implemented fluid mechanics into their time displays in intriguing ways. Offered here we have the H5 ref. H02351 that boasts HYT’s first bidirectional fluid display so that the time can be displayed in either direction as per the wearer’s preference. The fluid slowly moves along the tubes that encircle the skeletonized display and thus points to the hour the fluid is moving towards. The minutes are indicated by the subdial at 12 o’clock, and the 65-hour power reserve indicator at 3 o’clock showcases when the manual-wind cal. 501 movement that was produced in collaboration with the TEC Group and Eric Coudray will need to be wound again. Furthermore, the H5 also features a subtle running seconds subdial at 9 o’clock to complete the time display of this incredibly unique and futuristic timepiece.

THE DIAL
Featuring perhaps one of the most unique displays in all of watchmaking, HYT introduced the use of fluids to show time. Fluid is pumped around the dial to display the time. As shown in this photograph, the time is almost 7 o'clock.
THE CONSTRUCTION
While the ref. H02351's stainless steel construction might sound large at 48.8mm in diameter, its lack of lugs means this is also its lug-to-lug measurement, which is quite wearable.
