Introduction
Founded in 1994 by designer Marc Newson and entrepreneur Oliver Ike, Ikepod became one of the defining independent watch brands of the late 1990s and early 2000s through its fusion of industrial design and contemporary horology. Characterized by smooth organic forms and oversized pebble-like cases, Ikepod watches stood apart dramatically from the conventions of traditional Swiss watchmaking. The Megapode collection represented the brand’s bold approach to the chronograph, combining substantial case proportions with highly modern dial layouts and COSC-certified mechanical movements. The example offered here, the ref. MG01, is fitted with a modified ETA Valjoux 7750 movement and features the rarer grey dial variant produced as a limited edition. Like many early Ikepod watches, the Megapode has become increasingly collectible in recent years, appreciated both for its importance within modern watch design and for its direct connection to Marc Newson’s influential aesthetic language.

THE DIAL
The grey dial was produced as a limited-edition variant and perfectly complements the Megapode’s restrained industrial aesthetic. Featuring a highly legible chronograph layout with recessed subdials and bold hands, the display balances functionality with the minimalist design language that defined Ikepod during this period.

THE CONSTRUCTION
The 47mm case showcases the smooth rounded forms and sculptural surfaces that became signatures of Marc Newson’s watch designs. Despite its substantial dimensions, the seamless integration between the case and rubber strap gives the watch a fluid and highly wearable appearance.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
Watch is in overall excellent condition. The titanium case shows surface scuffs and light scratches, as does the case back. The dial remains near mint, while the hands remain very clean. It is fitted with a rubber strap showing a small split near the case. Comes with a blank warranty card.
Our Perspective
Marc Newson’s Megapode from the early 2000s uses the same innovative strap that the Apple Watch uses. Now we take that rubber strap design for granted, but more than twenty years ago it was genuinely groundbreaking.
