Introduction
Founded in 1994 by designer Marc Newson and entrepreneur Oliver Ike, Ikepod quickly became one of the most influential independent watch brands of the late 20th century, blending industrial design with contemporary horology in a way few brands had attempted before. Characterised by their smooth pebble-like cases and highly unconventional aesthetics, Ikepod watches stood apart dramatically from the more traditional Swiss watch industry of the period. The Seaslug World Time Alarm ref. SA01 perfectly encapsulates this philosophy, combining bold futuristic styling with practical travel-oriented complications. Produced in a limited edition of 9,999 pieces, the model features world time and alarm functionality powered by the reliable AS 5008 movement, housed within a substantial 46mm case that reflects Marc Newson’s distinctive design language. Today, early Ikepod watches have become increasingly collectible, admired both for their importance within modern watch design and for their association with one of industrial design’s most celebrated figures.

THE DIAL
The dial embraces Ikepod’s highly modern and utilitarian aesthetic, prioritizing functionality while maintaining the minimalist design language that defined the brand during the 1990s. The display integrates world time and alarm indications into a clean and highly legible layout, while the oversized hands and bold markers ensure strong visibility against the dark dial surface.

THE CONSTRUCTION
The Seaslug’s large 46mm case is unmistakably the work of Marc Newson, featuring the rounded organic forms and smooth transitions that became signatures of both Ikepod and Newson’s broader industrial design career. Despite its substantial size, the watch maintains a streamlined wrist presence thanks to its flowing case architecture and integrated strap design. The original rubber strap further reinforces the watch’s modern sporting character.

Condition
case size: 44.8mm
Watch is in overall near-mint condition. The steel case shows light marks from careful wear, while the case back displays signs of wear and retains crisp engravings. The bezel shows light surface marks. The dial and hands remain near mint. It is fitted with a black rubber strap and a steel pin buckle, both remaining in near-mint condition.
Please note: The watch ticks at time of cataloging, but timekeeping is poor and a service is recommended.
Our Perspective
The Sea Slug World Time Alarm not only has an unusual name, but also an unusual case design shaped like a bowl. This reference has so many functions: day, date, world time, and alarm. It is the perfect GMT for the seasoned traveler.
