Introduction

A quintessential 1990's stealth watch, the IWC Ceramic Flieger was produced in less than 2000 examples, starting in 1994. Although IWC had explored the use of ceramic cases earlier in the 1980's, the 3705 is perhaps the most famous and successful application of this difficult to use case material. The watch became an instant classic upon release, and hence IWC released a tribute edition of this watch in 2021.

THE DIAL

An important point to note is that many of these watches had their original tritium dials later changed at service for luminova ones. Thankfully, this example still retains its original tritium dial, with mildly aged luminous markers and matching tritium hands.

ZIRCONIUM OXIDE CASE

The 3705 features a Zirconium Oxide midcase, an innovative material first used by IWC in fine watchmaking. The pushers are done in stainless steel, as is the crown.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT

This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.

Condition

The overall condition is excellent. The dial and hands are perfect, and the ceramic mid-case shows no signs of wear. The stainless steel caseback only has light surface scratches and the original leather strap is still in pristine condition.

Our Perspective

The 3705 has always been a personal favorite of mine from the 1990's. When it first came out, I remember thinking how unique the black case was. It is not often that one finds an example in such amazing condition, that also comes with all of its original accessories.
