Introduction
Making waves in the watchmaking industry thanks to his extraordinary guilloché dials, Joshua Shapiro, based in California, uses traditional engine-turning machines to create intricate dial patterns - a technique that has become increasingly rare in modern watchmaking as the proliferation of CNC machines and embossing overtakes what has become a rapidly dying art. The same level of attention to detail and quality craftsmanship can also be said for how Shapiro engraves his cases and decorates his movements. Dedicated to reviving these art forms and integrating them into modern watchmaking through his eponymous brand J.N. Shapiro, he has amassed a dedicated following of collectors who want a tangible link to watchmaking’s past, not just an ephemeral link through an old brand name stamped on a dial. Offered here we have Infinity Series in stainless steel with a stunning blue titanium dial with his signature concentrically brushed chapter ring housing black Roman numerals and uniquely modernized Breguet-style blued steel hands. Appearing to be acid-etched throughout its blue titanium base, this example features a subtle basketweave pattern in its blued titanium subdial, which demonstrates Shapiro’s skill as an engraver.

Our Perspective
Boasting a staggeringly unique display, this example from the Infinity Series showcases Shapiro's talents to create wonderfully unique dials from an array of materials that modern mainstream watchmakers likely couldn't even dream of replicating.
