Introduction
Produced during the 1950s, this Jaeger-LeCoultre chronograph represents a rare and elegant example of mid-century Swiss chronograph design at its most refined. Featuring the distinctive flared lugs that collectors have come to nickname “Cornes de Vache,” or “cow horns,” the watch shares its celebrated case architecture with the famed Vacheron Constantin chronograph introduced in 1955. During this era, many of Switzerland’s leading manufactures sourced cases from the same specialist makers, resulting in fascinating design overlaps between some of the period’s most desirable chronographs. Powered by the manually wound Valjoux 72 movement, the watch combines graceful proportions with one of the most respected chronograph calibres ever produced. With its restrained dial design, elegant yellow gold construction, and beautifully sculpted lugs, the watch perfectly captures the sophistication and mechanical artistry of postwar Swiss chronograph production.

THE DIAL
The dial features a classic tri-compax chronograph layout with balanced proportions and restrained detailing that perfectly reflect the elegant chronograph design language of the 1950s. Its clean presentation and refined typography place emphasis on legibility and symmetry.

THE CONSTRUCTION
The 35mm yellow gold case is defined by its dramatic flared “Cornes de Vache” lugs, one of the most celebrated lug designs in vintage chronograph collecting. Their sharply curved sculptural form gives the watch remarkable visual presence despite its restrained dimensions, while the slim bezel and balanced proportions contribute to the timeless elegance of the overall design.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT

Condition
Watch is in overall excellent condition. The yellow gold case shows light surface scratches and small marks as expected of a watch of this vintage. The case profile remains strong, with the distinctive cornes de vache lugs well defined, and the hallmarks remain visible on the backs of the lugs. Case back has crisp stamps and a personal engraving. The dial is excellent, with some light surface marks consistent with age, while the blued hands remain clean. It is fitted with a vintage LeCoultre crocodile strap and a LeCoultre-signed yellow gold-toned buckle. Comes with original box.
Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.
Our Perspective
This striking LeCoultre chronograph shares the very same case with Vacheron Constantin’s reference 6087 “Cornes de Vache” from 1955. In case you were wondering, “cornes de vache” is French for “cow horns” which clearly refer to the distinctive lugs.
