Introduction
First ringing into the watchmaking scene in 1950 with one of the most practical horological complications to date, an alarm, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Memovox became a truly iconic piece from “the watchmaker’s watchmaker.” Key to its aesthetic and different from other alarm watches at the time; the Memovox had a separate crown for the operation of its alarm function and time-setting. This hinted at a rather ingenious design whereby the Memovox used two separate power reserves. One to power the alarm and one for the normal hands. This prevented the alarm from ringing for too long and draining the power from the watch. While the Memovox was an iconic watch for JLC, with a slew of variants from dive watches, chronographs, and various dress watches, the Memovox collection lives on in JLC’s modern catalog through their Polaris collection, which is what we have here. A sizeable dive watch-inspired perpetual calendar with a 42mm diameter case that measures only 11.97mm tall, the Polaris Perpetual Calendar Q9088180 is a rugged timepiece that commands 100m of water resistance and is powered by JLC’s own automatic cal. 868 movement. Boasting a dial with a tremblage texture across its central surface and a stunning graduated blue lacquer finish, this timepiece is a beautiful watch on the wrist filled with history and impressive horological might that makes it a wonderful piece to add to your collection.

THE DIAL
Rich with information for its perpetual calendar functions, the Polaris Perpetual Calendar's display is busy, yet with its tremblage texture in its center and graduated effect whereby its bright blue center fades to a near black along its periphery, its display is luxurious and immediately reminiscent of the depths at sea.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Considering its heritage and utility as a dive watch, it is no surprise that the Polaris is a sizeable watch with its 42mm diameter commanding significant wrist presence and maximum legibility.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT

Condition
Watch is in overall near-mint condition. The steel case shows light signs of use, while the dial and hands remain like new. The steel bracelet shows surface scratches to the polished sections and some marks on the clasp, with no play between the links. The bracelet is fitted with 15 links and fits approximately a 6¾” wrist. Please note that there are no additional links included. Comes complete with inner and outer boxes, warranty card, booklets, hangtag, additional rubber strap with steel deployant clasp, and setting tool.
Our Perspective
A sports watch rooted in JLC's history, the Polaris is filled with character as a result of its elaborately finished blue dial design and sizeable construction that make it a wonderful watch for any JLC collector seeking out a timepiece with an aesthetic that few other modern offerings from the brand can compete with.
