Introduction
The 1970s was a then-new era for watch brands to abandon the traditional round case, and Jaeger-LeCoultre was no exception. Alongside the decade's integrated-bracelet sports watches and increasingly architectural dress pieces came designs such as the ref. 9100, whose broad, softly squared case has subsequently earned it the straightforward “TV” nickname. Rather than relying on complication, its appeal comes from proportion and geometry with an expansive dial contained within a compact precious-metal case that feels unmistakably of its period.
Dating to the mid-70s, this ref. 9100-21 is executed in 18K yellow gold with a matching two-tone gold dial. Its approximately 34 x 35mm dimensions make the watch almost square, while rounded corners and the substantial bezel soften the television-screen profile. Power comes from a manually wound Jaeger-LeCoultre movement, reinforcing the watch's slim, uncomplicated character. It is an appealing example of the manufacture's less familiar 1970s output and a reminder that some of Jaeger-LeCoultre's most interesting vintage designs exist well beyond its celebrated Reverso and Memovox families.

THE DIAL
The two-tone gold dial complements the yellow gold case while remaining characteristically restrained. Applied baton hour markers with enamel tops at the quarters and slender hands emphasise the generous open space across the dial, with the broad television-shaped case providing almost all of the watch's visual drama. It is a distinctly 1970s approach to a simple time-only dress watch.
THE CONSTRUCTION
Measuring approximately 37 x 35mm, the 18K yellow gold case is defined by its softly squared “TV screen” profile. Rounded corners and broad surfaces give the watch considerable presence without requiring oversized dimensions, while the leather strap keeps attention firmly on the unusual case architecture.

Condition
Watch is in overall excellent condition. The 18K yellow gold case shows surface scratches and some small nicks, as expected of a watch of this vintage, with a small ding to the end of the upper right lug. The entire case has developed a pleasing patina. A crisp hallmark remains on the rear of the mid-case. The case back shows scratches and surface marks, with the reference and serial number stamps remaining legible. The dial is in excellent condition, with a few small surface marks. It is fitted with a leather strap and steel pin buckle.
Our Perspective
The ref. 9100 is the kind of Jaeger-LeCoultre that can easily be overlooked, which is precisely part of its appeal. Its almost-square yellow gold case captures the experimental design language of the 1970s without becoming excessive, while the minimal dial and manually wound movement keep it rooted in traditional dress-watch territory. For collectors looking beyond the manufacture's best-known families, it is an unusual and distinctly period alternative.
