Introduction
One of the significant Swiss dive-watch makers of the 1960s and 1970s and based in Lengnau in the Canton of Bern, Jenny & Cie SA who later became known as Jenny & Caribbean Montre AG became famed for its “Caribbean” dive models that it had launchd in 1962 and 1963. Tested to withstand 30 atmospheres, these watches became known as the Caribbean 300. Later in 1964, Jenny began experimenting with new sealing methods to push its cases even deeper, resulting in watches capable of reaching around 700 metres, which led to the Caribbean 700.
In a continued push to go deeper, by the mid-1960s, Jenny released the Caribbean 2000, which is what we have here, a purpose-built tool watch for extreme diving that carried an impressive portfolio of patents as referenced on its caseback. Made using a water-resistant front-loaded monobloc case with a rotating bakelite bezel, a mineral crystal compressed between the bezel and mid-case, and a bezel-mounted decompression indicator, the Caribbean 2000 was a state of the art dive watch for its time. Today a rarity due to its nature as a ladies dive watch at the time, the Jenny 2000 Caribbean is perhaps perfectly sized for today’s standards, with a 36mm diameter case that is perfectly round with a domed profile that gives it a rather unique presence on the wrist. Boasting an orange dial to match its bezel and fitted to a tropic rubber strap, this timepiece is filled with 1960s quirk.

THE DIAL

Small for its time but perfect for ours, the Jenny Caribbean 2000's domed 36mm stainless steel case has a monobloc-style construction that helped to ensure its water-proofness of 1000m.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT

Condition
The watch is in overall near-mint condition. The steel case is very clean, with only a few light marks, and the case back has crisp engravings. The bezel is well defined with minor surface marks, while the 60-minute insert is near mint with just a couple of small blemishes. The dial is excellent, featuring clean lume, though some of the text appears to have faded slightly. The watch is fitted with a Tropic rubber strap and steel buckle, both in excellent condition.
Our Perspective
A rare dive watch oddity, the Jenny Caribbean 2000 was at the forefront of dive watch technology for its day, with it now existing as a cult classic amongst those who enjoy extremely rare and visually distinctive timepieces with rich histories.
