Introduction
Beginning life in 1860, Juvenia can trace their origins to Saint-Imier in Switzerland after its founding by Jacques Didisheim-Goldschmidt. One of the few watchmakers to enjoy uninterrupted production since its founding, Juvenia have created a slew of timepieces best known for avant-garde designs, unorthodox constructions and unusual displays, of which the ref. 9671 that we have here features. While its 18kt yellow gold case was large for its time at 37mm in diameter, its design was certainly rather typical of the 1960s with a thin polished bezel and thin straight lugs that feature a small angle as they wrap around the wrist. However, the ref. 9671’s unique design comes from its white “Mystery Dial” which uses a red and green disk to display the hours and minutes, respectively. With sharp golden triangular applied indices to match its construction atop its white dial, the ref. 9671’s unique display refers back to the typical displays of its time, but its large and colorful disks clearly depart from the reserved design language that was more typical during the 1960s. A fun timepiece from a time where watchmaking was probably a little too serious, it is only now that Juvenia’s fun ref. 9671 can be appreciated as it so deserves.

THE DIAL
Featuring a red and green disk instead of traditional hands, the ref. 9671's "mystery dial" is immediately unique. Its red arrow-tipped disk reads the hours, while its green index-tipped disk reads the minutes.

THE CONSTRUCTION
While its display might be unique, the ref. 9671's construction is rather typical of 1960s design with a thin polished bezel and straight thin lugs. However, its 37mm diameter would have certainly been large at the time, making it rather contemporary by today's standards.

Our Perspective
A fun watch that was incredibly unique for its time given its unusual, and colorful, mystery dial, the ref. 9671 was far ahead of its time like so many other timepieces from Juvenia.
