Introduction
Beginning life in 1860, Juvenia can trace their origins to Saint-Imier in Switzerland after its founding by Jacques Didisheim-Goldschmidt. One of the few watchmakers to enjoy uninterrupted production since its founding, Juvenia have created a slew of timepieces best known for avant-garde designs, unorthodox constructions and unusual displays, of which the Arithmo that we have here features. Launched in 1945 to aid its wearer in performing calculations through its slide rule bezel, the Arithmo boasts a hulking (for the time) 42mm stainless steel construction with 18kt gold lugs. Boasting golden accents on its information-dense silver dial to match its golden lugs, the Arithmo feeds into Juvenia’s history as the creator of several wonderful and whacky timepieces that have come to symbolize the brand’s unique history.

Condition
Watch is in near-mint vintage condition. Gold lugs show some oxidation, and case shows only minor signs of wear along the surfaces. Original dial shows some minor areas of blotchiness on the surface, but they are minor in nature. Watch comes with original plated buckle but on a generic strap. Please note that the watch winds and ticks at time of cataloging, but the timekeeping is poor and a service is suggested.
Our Perspective
A quirky timepiece that showcases how much we take modern calculators for granted, the Arithmo is full of unique vintage appeal that departs from the design language and use cases that typically inspire modern watchmakers, making it an appealing relic of a long-lost time in horology.
