Founded in 2018 as a means for legendary Japanese watchmaker Hajime Asaoka to create serial production pieces, Kurono Tokyo stands as one of the most exciting microbrands in today's watchmaking industry. With Hajime's reputation as an exceptional watchmaker secured from decades of recognition for designing one-off timepieces in close collaboration with his clients, it was never in doubt that his serial production brand would take off. Offered here we have Kurono’s Grand Hagane, a timepiece that features a 37mm stainless steel case with an entirely polished surface, which really showcases the Grand Hagane’s Urushi lacquered dial. Made from the filtered sap of the Japanese rhus vernicifera tree, this lacquer is then hand polished so as to allow the dial’s base metal to show from underneath the brown color of the dial, creating a “Tamahagane" pattern, which is what was also found on Japanese katana blades. Atop its hand-polished finish, the Grand Hagane then features Koji numerals native to Eastern Japan and serve as the cherry on top of this stunningly well-made artisanal dial.

Watch is in like new condition, with little to no signs of handling.
