A Finnish watchmaker based in Le Locle, Torsti Laine has made a name for himself by creating timepieces with some of the most immaculate dials in all of independent watchmaking. In 2014 he received the A. Lange & Sohne annual prize for Excellence in Watchmaking and since gone on to start his own eponymous watchmaker creating stunning classical watches with hand-finishing dials and decorations on the movements, in accordance with each client’s specific order. Launched as the next generation of the Gelidus collection, the G3 features a two-piece dial that allows the use of different materials, colors and finishing when constructing the dial. As such, the example we have here features a bright white dial with two different textures. Its center portion features Laine's "Grain de riz" engraving, and its peripheral section features their Moonfrosting texture with a silver brushed chapter ring along the periphery, blued Breguet numerals and hands, and a silver ring encircling the inner flammé portion. An immaculate expression of hand-finishing, the G3 also features a hand-finished movement with deep anglage and countersinking for its screws and rubies alongside sandblasting throughout and brightly polished mechanics. An artisanal timepiece inside and out, it is no wonder that Laine has grown to their current level of popularity with a lengthy waiting list and a deep level of appreciation within the watchmaking community.
