Introduction
During the 1950s and 1960s, the chronograph became one of the defining complications of Swiss watchmaking, combining mechanical sophistication with increasingly elegant and purposeful designs. Among the manufacturers producing these watches was LeCoultre, the name under which Jaeger-LeCoultre marketed many of its timepieces in the United States. Although the manufacture is best known for its Reverso, Memovox and extraordinary expertise in movement development, its vintage chronographs represent an equally interesting chapter in its history. Characterised by restrained proportions, beautifully arranged dials and high-quality mechanical movements, these watches offered a sophisticated alternative to the more overtly sporting chronographs of the period.
The LeCoultre ref. E335 is a particularly attractive example of this approach, combining a stainless steel case measuring approximately 36mm with a classic three-register chronograph display. Its white dial features applied Arabic numerals, elegant sword hands and a black tachymeter scale, creating a balanced composition. Beneath the dial sits the celebrated manually wound Valjoux 72, a column-wheel chronograph movement that also powered some of the most important sporting chronographs of the twentieth century, including early Rolex Daytonas. The E335 presents this renowned calibre in a more understated setting, with slender downturned lugs and a polished case that reflect the elegance of mid-century design.

THE DIAL
The white dial features a traditional three-register chronograph layout, with a black tachymeter scale around its outer edge. Applied Arabic numerals and elegant sword hands complement the carefully balanced subsidiary registers, while blued chronograph hands introduce a subtle contrast.

THE CONSTRUCTION
The stainless steel case measures approximately 36mm and features a polished finish, slender bezel and elegantly downturned lugs. Its traditional pump-style chronograph pushers flank the winding crown, maintaining the balanced appearance of a classical 1960s chronograph.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
Watch is in overall very good condition. The stainless steel case is well defined, with surface scratches and small nicks, as expected of a watch of this vintage. The case back shows scratches and retains a very well-defined serial number stamp. The dial has been previously refinished exhibits surface marks and spotting, while the tachymeter scale around the outer edge has faded. The central hands show some surface marks and discolouration to the luminous material. It is fitted with a black leather rally-style strap and stainless steel Jaeger-LeCoultre pin buckle showing surface scratches. Comes with original box and blank guarantee booklet.
Our Perspective
The LeCoultre E335 combines the elegance of a traditional 1960s chronograph with the mechanical pedigree of the legendary Valjoux 72. Its restrained design, attractive proportions and accompanying original box and guarantee booklet make it a compelling alternative to more familiar vintage chronographs.
