Introduction

While today they are best known for their value-for-money offerings, Longines was perhaps one of the most influential watchmakers in the early 1900s until the mid-century. Largely due to their incredible chronographs and timeless dress watches, it is timepieces like this ref. 4135 that earned Longines their revered place within the market. Tastefully minimalist, the ref. 4315 features a simple 34mm 18kt yellow gold case construction and a minimalist sector dial design with blued steel hands that provide a subtle pop of color on its monochromatic display. Featuring Arabic numerals for its even hour markers and stick indices at the odd hours to make its sector dial layout, the ref. 4315’s display speaks to the various subtleties within its design, such as its sunken running seconds subdial. With angular lugs along with its flat bezel, this example’s 18kt yellow gold case is full of life thanks to the rich patina that it has been able to develop over the 8 or so decades that it has been worn and enjoyed, making it a true piece of horological history.

Our Perspective

A time capsule piece of horological history, it is examples like this ref. 4135 that give us an insight into what classical dress watches were like back in the 1940s.
