Founded in 1929, Louis Erard is a watchmaker filled with heritage and history. Selling watches under their own banner since 1931, the brand was eventually acquired in the 1990s before it was later relaunched in 2003, during the independent watchmaking boom of the early 2000s. Since then, Louis Erard is well-established with a strong design language that punches far heavier than its price tag might indicate. As such, Louis Erard’s timepieces are incredibly well-received and sought-after, much like their limited edition 2021 release of just 99 pieces, the Émail Grand Feu. Powered by the workhorse Sellita cal. 261-1 and featuring a 42mm case made of stainless steel, the Émail Grand Feu is not a timepiece that immediately demands attention, but it has one trick up its sleeve, an immaculate cream-colored enamel dial. Produced by enamel dial specialists Donzé Cadrans, the Émail Grand Feu’s dial features blue and beige colored indices, a small seconds subdial and blued steel hands. Produced using the notoriously tricky ‘Grand Feu’ (great fire) technique whereby a copper baseplate is built upon using enamel powder that is repeatedly fired until the desired thickness is reached, the Émail Grand Feu’s dial is a sight to behold. With incredible levels of accuracy, a beautiful color, and incredibly high failure rates, its immaculate dial was produced and has provided the base for one of Louis Erard’s finest timepieces, one which we are proud to offer.
