Introduction
Founded in 1929, Louis Erard is a watchmaker filled with heritage and history. Selling watches under their own banner since 1931, the brand was eventually acquired in the 1990s before it was later relaunched in 2003, during the independent watchmaking boom of the early 2000s. Since then, Louis Erard is well-established with a strong design language that punches far heavier than its price tag might indicate. As such, Louis Erard’s timepieces are incredibly well-received and sought-after, much like their 2021 release, the Excellence Guilloche Main. Created as a celebration of artistic craftsmanship, the Excellence Guilloche Main’s dial is executed by hand guilloché on each of the 99 pieces in the collection. Featuring an intricately formed lattice of checked squares, it combines a black varnish dial baseplate and a final rhodium plating on top that gives a silver patina to the brass exposed by the guilloche chisel that results in the stair-like appearance of the lattice structure that is created with alternating jet-black diamonds punctuating the dial. With Louis Erard's signature blued steel fir tree hands, the Excellence Guilloche Main is also surprisingly legible – not something one would expect from such a unique dial.

Our Perspective
An ode to the wonderful dials that we have seen in horology over the centuries, the Excellence Guilloché Main offers one of the most unique displays modern watchmaking has to offer.
