Introduction
Founded by Maximilian Büsser in 2005, MB&F has become one of the most influential independent watchmakers of the twenty-first century, earning a reputation for creating radical three-dimensional timepieces that challenge conventional ideas of watch design. While its Horological and Legacy Machines have established the brand at the very highest end of independent watchmaking, their exclusivity has inevitably placed them beyond the reach of many enthusiasts who admire Büsser's creative vision.
The M.A.D. 1 was conceived to change that. Originally created in 2021 as a personal project for MB&F's suppliers, friends and long-standing collectors, it was never intended to become a commercial release. Demand quickly spread throughout the wider collecting community, leading to the now-famous lottery system that has accompanied subsequent editions. Rather than simply producing a more affordable MB&F, the M.A.D. 1 offers an entirely original concept, combining an inverted movement, a lateral time display and an exuberant high-speed winding rotor into a watch that perfectly captures Maximilian Büsser's playful approach to mechanical watchmaking.

THE DIAL
Rather than a conventional dial, the M.A.D. 1 displays the time through rotating aluminium cylinders mounted around the side of the case. Finished in vivid blue, the lateral display is both unconventional and surprisingly intuitive to read.
THE CONSTRUCTION
The stainless steel case houses an inverted movement topped by the M.A.D. 1's signature titanium and tungsten triple-blade winding rotor. Constantly spinning with the motion of the wrist, it transforms the watch into a kinetic mechanical sculpture.

Few modern watches have generated as much excitement as the M.A.D. 1. Rather than creating a simplified version of an existing MB&F, Maximilian Büsser developed an entirely new concept that embodies the same creativity and sense of fun that define his most celebrated creations. Produced in limited numbers and available only through tightly controlled allocations, the M.A.D. 1 has already become one of the defining independent watch releases of the decade.
