Introduction
Launched in 2013 as a direct descendent of MB&F’s very first Legacy Machine, the LM1, the LM2 utilizes the same 44mm case design and the same level of finishing, as executed by Kari Voutilainen, just like in the LM1. So, what does it do differently? Well, a lot. Instead of featuring just a single suspended balance wheel like in the LM1, the LM2 sports two independent balance wheels that sit beside one another. Furthermore, at the 6 o'clock, there is only a single differential wheel, which serves to transfer power to each of these two regulators, receive the timing rates of each balance wheel individually and to then transfer the average of these two timing rates to the gear train, which then displays the time turns the hands to tell the time. Indeed, a complex mechanism to just tell the time, the LM2 was inspired by 19th century pocket watches built on the same principal. A truly spectacular combination of modern watchmaking and heritage-rooted inspiration, the LM2 is as aesthetically unique as it is mechanically, with the large colored backdrop actually being the movement’s top plate, and its only real dial being a white enamel subdial at 12 o’clcok. On the 18kt white gold variant we have here, the movement’s top plate is grey, which serves as a beautifully monochromatic backdrop that highlights the wonderful arrangement of gears and balance wheels that sit on the dial-side of the watch and make it what it is.

THE DIAL
Featuring a grey dial that makes up the background of its display, the LM2's monochromatic aesthetic makes for the perfect backdrop to let its two bespoke 11mm balance wheels take center stage.

THE MOVEMENT
While immaculately hand-finished throughout, the LM2's movement is not just a simple movement to be admired. Indeed, it features two balances that beat at their natural rate. One planetary differential, at 6 o'clock, then takes the average of these two beat rates before feeding the geartrain, which then powers the hour and minute hands to ensure minimal variance as a result of wear, shocks, orientation and so on.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
Watch is in near-mint condition. There are a few minor areas of wear on the watch, including a few small marks on the bezel and lugs as well as a couple scratches on the caseback.
Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.
Our Perspective
Hand-finished to perfection and aesthetically novel, the LM2 was an important watch when it was first launched, and to this day, it continues to stand as one of MB&F’s most impressive releases, and we just love it.
