Introduction
Founded as a cutting-tool manufacturer in 1963, Japanese watchmaker Minase has grown from one of Japan’s premier drill manufacturers into one of their newest watchmakers. Born from the question “What type of watch could we make if we try to make the ideal watch using our original tools, which have come to be used by many watch manufacturers?”, Minase, as a watchmaker, was launched in 2005 and has quickly proven their mettle with a bevy of impressive releases, one of which is the watch we have here, the Divido ref. VM04-R04SD. Launched with the intention of blending their technological know-how with Japanese watchmaking, the Divido boasts angular lugs and an intricately finished 40.5mm stainless steel case that is as sporty as it is unique. Furthemore, Minase have fitted the Divido with a stunning dial that appears to float in its case with its only connections to the case being the polished steel indices that bridge the gap and create a wonderful three dimensional perspective that follows the subtle curvature of the dial as they fade into the periphery of the display. Offered on a rubber strap and powered by the cal. KT7001/1, the Divido ref. VM14-RBKKA4-SSD is a uniquely designed timepiece that merges the Japanese art of Urushi lacquering with the country’s famed industrial know-how in a fun and interesting manner that is filled with personality and intrigue. Boasting a black dial with suspended shells that are then polished, the ref. VM14-RBKKA4-SSD’s black dial boasts clusters of bright blue and green that showcase the craftsmanship that has gone into creating this timepiece.

THE DIAL
Boasting polished green and blue specks of shells suspended in black Urushi lacquer, the Divido's curved display is immediately impressive, given how clearly the dial contrasts the silver-colored indices that hold it in place.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Boasting a fresh aesthetic, the Divido does not rinse and repeat old wristwatch designs. Indeed, its case is angular and aggressive, which is reflected in the design of its sharp lugs and pronounced indices - all of which benefit from Minase's skill with Sallaz polishing.

Our Perspective
A wonderfully interesting watch that speaks to the individuality of its wearer, the Divido reveals Minase's industrial origins through its contemporary design that breaks boundaries through an aesthetic that is unapologetically powerful, daring, and artistic.
