Introduction
In a short time since its first watches hit the market in 2017, MING has built a reputation as a small brand that makes high quality and thoughtfully designed watches in very limited quantities. This formula for success was validated in 2019, as the brand took home the GPHG award for Horological Revelation for the 17.06 Copper. The 18.01 H41 DLC that we have here was launched in mid-2020 as an evolution of the original Abyss concept and an expansion within the 18.01 family. It features a slightly slimmer profile and a slightly updated aesthetic with an entirely blacked out DLC-coated grade 5 titanium construction. The watch is a truly functional dive watch, with an incredible depth rating of 1km which is paired with extensive use of Super-LumiNova X1 across its dial and bezel, which combine to produce MING’s signature luminous pattern, a mainstay of the brand’s already-famous design language, much like MING’s flared lugs. Furthermore, the 18.01 DLC is powered by the famously robust and reliable automatic ETA cal. 2824-2 movement, which Schwarz-Etienne has modified for MING, as per usual. Sitting on a sleek black rubber strap by Jean Rousseau Paris, the 18.01 DLC demonstrates the collaborative efforts required to create a timepiece of this calibre and the levels MING will go to in order to produce a top quality timepiece.

THE DIAL
With a focus on legibility, the MING 18.01 makes extensive use of the brightest luminous material made by LumiNova, called X1. It is applied in liquid expoxy form to the bezel, a solid block in the hands, and as HyCeram- a sapphire fused luminous ceramic.
THE CONSTRUCTION
Featuring a totally blacked-out DLC-coated titanium construction, the 18.01 DLC is an incredibly stealthy timepiece as it sits on a matching quick release black rubber strap with a black bezel, crown and caseback to boot.
