Introduction
Having taken the independent watchmaking scene by storm, MING watches have become some of the most sought-after timepieces from an independent watchmaker on the market, and the 22.01 is no exception. Launched in 2022, the new 22.01 GMT Kyoto combines the brand’s unique design language with a Japanese-inspired aesthetic that takes design cues from Kyoto’s stone and moss-laden gardens with its multi-layered dial that boasts green and grey detailing that takes after those gardens' abundance of moss and stone. Featuring MING’s signature chapter ring etched on the underside of the top sapphire crystal, the dial sports a three-layer design with a grey and green metal base layer on the bottom that plays background to another sapphire overlay that houses the grey inscriptions below the main chapter ring. An intriguing blend of modern watchmaking and early brass and gilt watches the 22.01 Kyoto is an intriguing timepiece that showcases MING’s talents as a brand. Furthermore, with a titanium case with MING’s iconic pagoda-style lugs and 38mm x 10.7mm measurements, the 22.01 Kyoto wears with the same joyful presence as the majority of MING’s timepieces. Powered by the cal. 330.M2, based on the Sellita SW330-2 movement, it remains a timepiece that will certainly be a reliable piece in anyone’s collection.

Our Perspective
Fusing MING's modern aesthetic with the appeal of the stone and moss-laden gardens found in Japan, the 22.01 Kyoto shows how far watchmaking has come as it puts a contemporary spin on an aesthetic that collectors have cherished for decades.
