Introduction
Born from then Movado CEO’s friendship with one Andy Warhol, the Movado Artist Series has come to represent four decades of collaboration with some of the world’s finest artists as they each bring their unique artistic expression to a timepiece. Beginning with Andy Warhol in 1988, the example that we have here is the 1991 Elapse, Eclipse, Ellipse ref. 90.15.980 from American artist James Rosenquist, another proprietor of the Pop Art movement, much like Warhol. Offered as a limited edition of just 180 pieces, the Elapse, Eclipse, Ellipse features a triple case design that melts into one, with three accompanying dials, and manual-wind movements. Made of sterling silver and boasting uniquely colored dials in Rosenquist’s unique style, the Elapse, Eclipse, Ellipse is an immensely unusual watch that perhaps best represents the Artist Series as it showcases both impressive watchmaking and a unique aesthetic that probably wouldn’t ever exist if it wasn’t for Rosenquist’s collaboration.

THE DIALS
Featuring a trio of dials, each powered by independent manual-wind movements, the Elapse, Eclipse, Ellipse boasts Rosenquist's uniquely bright and colorful design aesthetic that is informed by his work in the Pop Art genre.

THE CONSTRUCTION
While its sterling silver case is long at 57mm, the Elapse, Eclipse, Ellipse features a heavy curve to its melting case design that allows the watch to effortlessly drape around the wrist.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
The watch is in overall near-mint condition. The silver case has a few light scratches, and the case back shows some light marks but retains well-defined engravings. The dial and hands are near mint. It is fitted with a leather strap and steel deployant in near-mint condition.
Our Perspective
Boasting an unconventional design that you either see the appeal to or not, Rosenquist's Elapse, Eclipse, Ellipse acts as a piece of wearable art that challenges its wearer and watchmaking as a whole just as much as his traditional work as a proponent of the Pop Art movement that sought to challenge traditional fine art.
