Introduction
While Omega might be known best for aiding in sending men to the moon and producing watches for everyone’s favorite English spy agent, they have a long history in fine watchmaking that is often overlooked. Mid-century Omega created some exquisite timepieces, much like the ref. 2639 that we have here. Launched in 1949 and produced all the way through the 1950s, the ref. 2639 has become a watch that Omega collectors cherish and enjoy collecting thanks to all of the different variants out there. Large for its time, the ref. 2639 measures in at 36mm in diameter, thus making it a wonderful watch to wear even in today’s day and age. Known for its variety of dials, this example boasts a two-tone champagne dial that features a running seconds subdial at 6 o’clock alongside applied Arabic numerals that house a beautifully aged luminous material, which also resides in its hands. Powered by the manual-wind cal. 265, this example is one of the earlier models, as the cal. 266 was later added to the reference. Entirely wearable in today’s horological landscape thanks to its distinctly contemporary 36mm diameter case, which, when combined with its beautiful cal. 265 manual-wind movement means this timepiece is the perfect option for a collector looking for a vintage timepiece that they can wear and enjoy just like any modern timepiece that they may own.

Condition
Watch is in very good overall condition. Dial has radium burn that has aged the dial to a tropical color. Radium plots and hands have aged to a pleasing color. There is some discoloration on the dial, primarily around the 6 o'clock subdial. The case is very good condition, showing soft wear on the lugs and case.
Our Perspective
An elegant timepiece spawning from mid-century Omega's sensibilities, the ref. 2639 has proven to be rather timeless with its large stainless steel case, beautiful dial and hardy manual-wind movement.
