Introduction
Introduced during the late 1960s, the Omega Seamaster 120 ref. 166.073 represents one of the brand’s boldest and most distinctive dive watches of the era. Nicknamed the “Deep Blue” by collectors, the model is immediately recognizable for its large cushion-shaped case, striking blue dial, and matching Bakelite bezel insert, all of which perfectly capture the adventurous design language of late-1960s sports watches. Powered by Omega’s dependable automatic cal. 565 movement, the Seamaster 120 was designed as a professional-grade diving instrument while maintaining the refined finishing and reliability for which Omega had become known. The reference has also become associated with use by the Israeli Defense Forces, adding an additional layer of historical intrigue to an already highly charismatic model. Today, the “Deep Blue” stands among the most collectible vintage Seamaster references produced during Omega’s golden era of tool watch manufacturing.

THE DIAL
The vivid blue dial is the defining feature behind the model’s “Deep Blue” nickname, giving the watch a dramatic and highly recognizable appearance. Large luminous hour markers and broad hands ensure excellent legibility, while the clean date aperture at three o’clock maintains the dial’s balanced and highly functional layout.

THE CONSTRUCTION
The Seamaster 120’s oversized cushion-shaped stainless steel case reflects the bold and highly experimental design language of late-1960s dive watches. Measuring 43mm in diameter, the watch offers significant wrist presence while retaining Omega’s characteristic attention to proportion and finishing. The Bakelite and acrylic bezel insert remains one of the model’s most distinctive design elements, contributing strongly to its unique visual identity.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
Watch is in overall excellent condition. The steel case shows light surface scratches and marks, while the case back retains well-defined engravings with some surface scratches. The bezel remains well defined and the insert remains very clean. The dial remains excellent with some light surface spotting, while the white hands remain excellent with some discoloration to the lume. It is fitted with a bracelet showing surface marks and light play between the links. The bracelet is fitted with 22 links, 2 of which are removable, and fits approximately a 7¾” wrist.
Our Perspective
A very under the radar watch in my opinion, the Omega Seamaster 120 is nicknamed “Deep Blue”. Used by the Israeli Defense Forces, its distinctive blue dial, acrylic bezel, and oversized crown make for a commanding presence on the wrist.
