Introduction
Initially released in 1948 and based on watches used by airmen in WWII, the Omega Seamaster has become one of Omega’s best-known collections. Initially, a dress-style watch with thick lugs, the Seamaster was designed to promote daily wear while remaining functional for use in water with 62.5 meters of water resistance. However, the Seamaster eventually moved past its dressier beginning and became a fully-fledged dive watch, which makes the original dressier examples all the more charming. Offered here we have a 34.5mm Seamaster ref. C6865 from the 1970s made of 14kt yellow gold that speaks to its original dressy aesthetic with its leather strap and understated design that comes as a result of its flat bezel and simple lugs. Making this piece rather unique is its champagne dial, which includes the signature of the watch’s original retailer Tiffany & Co. at 12 o'clock. Powered by an automatic movement and featuring a day and date complication, this timepiece was exceedingly luxurious for its time, but fit within a dressier aesthetic than competing watches like the Rolex Day-Date and so on.

THE DIAL
Featuring a vertically-brushed texture, this example's champagne display retains a secret that marks it is as a very special watch indeed, its Tiffany & Co. co-signature at 12 o'clock, which reveals that the famed American jeweller and watch retailer is who would have originally sold the watch in one of their locations.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Offered as one of the original dressier Seamaster variants, the ref. C6865's 14kt yellow gold construction combines a traditional dress watch design with a functional approach, with its slightly larger stature at 34.5mm allowing for a large dial to complement its functional compiations.

Condition
Watch is in overall excellent condition. The 14k yellow gold case remains well defined and shows surface scratches and marks across the bezel, lugs, and case back as expected of a watch of this vintage. The Omega crown remains very well defined. The dial is generally excellent, with a strong Tiffany & Co. signature, though the “Seamaster De Ville” text appears slightly smudged or to have bled into the dial surface. The hands remain clean. there are some scuffs on the crystal. It is fitted with a black leather strap in good condition and an 18k yellow gold Omega pin buckle in excellent condition.
Our Perspective
A dressier member of the Seamaster family, this De Ville variant ref. C6865 showcases the collection's original design language, with its overt focus on luxury before all else, as evidenced by its co-signed dial and complications.
