Introduction
While they might be best known for sending their watches to space on the wrists of astronauts, Omega certainly have a colorful heritage that we ought to explore more as collectors. One such interesting, and colorful, offering from Omega is the Seamaster Soccert Timer. Launched in the later 1960s, this chronograph was devised to specifically, as its name suggests, time each of the 45-minute halves of a game of soccer, or football for our European friends. Available here we have the first iteration of the Soccer Timer, the ref. 145.016 that was launched circa 1968. Offered with a white or black dial, our example boasts the black dial with red and black subdials and bright orange hands. Offered in a 38mm tonneau-shaped case, the Soccer Timer was a larghe watch forits time, which has inevitably made it a fantastically wearable watch for us these days. A beautiful watch with an intriguing history free from Omega’s typical hype and fanfare, the Soccer Timer is a peculiar watch for the collector who wants a watch a little of the beaten track and unique.

THE DIAL
While originally offered as a black dial, this example's display has softened to a light shade of grey, which plays as a wonderful contrast to its black and red subdials and bright orange hands.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Contemporarily sized, to say the least, the Soccer Timer was a large watch for the 1960s with its 38mm tonneau-shaped stainless steel construction outsizing the majority of other watches.
