Introduction
Released in 1957 and based on their earlier chronographs from the 1920s and '30s, the Omega Speedmaster is one of the most iconic chronographs ever. Named after the purpose of the tachymeter along its bezel, the Speedmaster was designed for race car drivers and pilots to time events and make rapid calculations. While these adrenaline-fueled activities might be not for the faint-hearted, they weren't what made the Speedmaster so iconic - that was its use in space and on the Moon. However, prior to its use in space, Omega launched the Speedmaster ref. 105.002 in 1962. Produced until 1964, it is one of the rarest vintage Speedmaster variants. The predecessor to the Ed White ref. 105.003, the ref. 105.002 features the same 39mm case design with flat lugs and a flat three-link bracelet. Powered by the iconic manual-wind cal. 321, our example also features a grey dial, a rare variation found in very few Speedmasters of that era.

Our Perspective
An iconic watch that was only produced for a very short period of time, the Speedmaster ref. 105.002 was the predecessor to one of Omega's most storied watches, the "Ed White" ref. 105.003, and as a result, is a rare and treasured part of the Speedmaster's lineage.
