Introduction
Released in 1957 and based on their earlier chronographs from the 1920s and '30s, the Omega Speedmaster is one of the most iconic chronographs ever. Named after the purpose of the tachymeter along its bezel, the Speedmaster was designed for race car drivers and pilots to time events and make rapid calculations. While these adrenaline-fueled activities might not be for the faint-hearted, they weren't what made the Speedmaster so iconic - that was its use in space and on the Moon. Following a gruelling series of tests with several competing brands, the Speedmaster debuted in space as a piece of NASA standard-issue equipment during the Gemini program of 1965. Today the Speedmaster has many forms, but the Moonwatch is by far the most iconic, with its design standing as the prototypical look of the Speedmaster. Offered as a traditional Speedmaster, the 20th Apollo XI Anniversary Speedmaster ref. 3590.59 that we have here is a stunning reminder of the watch’s design origins. Launched in 1989 as a limited edition release of just 6250 pieces (split across 2000 numbered examples for the US market, another separate 250 numbered for the German market and 4000 unnumbered examples for the rest of the world) this reference was one of the few Speedmaster variants to feature an engraved case. Boasting the Speedmaster’s traditional dial, case and bracelet, it is a wonderful quirk within the family tree that has lived on to become deeply collectible. Offered in new old stock condition as a full set, this example is as desirable as this reference gets.

THE DIAL
Featuring its signature black dial and bezel combo, the Speedmaster's sunken subdials and white indices and hands combine to form the cornerstone of the Speedmaster's display's aesthetic flair. Of course, thanks to this example age, however, its once-white indices have aged to turn a gorgeous yellow color.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Boasting its 42mm case with an engraved side, its famed lyre lugs, its charming hesalite crystal, patinated dial and black bezel combo, the Speedmaster is a watch every enthusiast is familiar with, and this is a rather unique variant of it.

Watch is in like-new "New Old Stock" condition. Case shows light handling marks but retains its original blue plastic factory coating along the surfaces. Watch is fitted on a full length bracelet that shows similar minor wear and is full length, fitting an 8+ inc wrist. Our Perspective
Offered as time capsule example, this full set offering comes in new old stock condition with everything that it was originally sold with back in 1995, such as its patch, box, papers, and strap.
