Introduction
Famed as perhaps one of watchmaking's most universally well-known watches, the Omega Speedmaster became the first timepiece ever to be worn on the moon following Omega's successful bid for the Speedmaster to become NASA's choice timepiece for their standard astronaut kit. After its successful inclusion in the 1965 Gemini program, the Speedmaster also adorned the wrists of the astronauts during the Apollo moon landing missions, and so, in 1969, following Buzz Aldrin's historic steps on the moon (Neil Armstrong left his watch on the lunar module) it became the Moonwatch that we all know and love. However, there is more than being that Moonwatch to the Speedmaster. First released as a racing watch, the Speedmaster has had various references launched since its initial debut in 1957 that sought to appease the needs of race cars drives and so forth, like the Speedmaster Co-axial Racing ref. 329.33.44.51.04.01 that we have here. Boasting the Speedmaster’s signature design and construction, it features a white dial with a bi-compax subdial layout that differs from the trio of subdials that are normally seen on the Speedmaster. Made of stainless steel and powered by the automatic cal. 9900 movement, this timepiece forgoes the Speedy’s space-bound heritage and instead appeals to the collection’s even older roots as a watch created for racers.

THE DIAL
Featuring a different layout to what is usually seen in the Speedmaster, the Co-Axial Racing's white dial features twin subdials the included functionality of a date aperture at 6 o'clock.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Larger than typical, the Co-Axial Racing features a 44.25mm diameter stainless steel case that dwarfs the 42mm case that the Moonwatch is known for, giving it a bulky poise on the wrist.

Condition
Watch is excellent overall condition. Case shows minor signs of wear, with some light scuffs and marks visible along the case sides and bracelet. Bracelet is currently fitted with 9 links, 1 of which is removable. It is fitted for a 6 1/4" wrist, but there are 2 additional links included in the auction. The watch is accompanied by a service case, as well as original guarantee cards as well as sales receipt.
Our Perspective
A modern sports watch designed for functionality and utility, the Speedmaster Co-Axial Racing forgoes the Speedy's spacegoing heritage and focuses on being the best watch possible for race car drives just like how the Speedmaster was originally intended back in 1957.
