Introduction
Famed as the watch that was first worn on the moon during the Apollo moon landings, the Omega Speedmaster has long been known as one of watchmaking's most iconic timepieces. However, while its claim to fame is legendary, it was not originally conceived as a watch for space. Instead, it was a watch designed for race car drivers, hence its name. Launched in the late 1990s as a Japan-only edition of the Speedmaster Date, the ref. 3813.53.26 that we have here is a racing dial variant of the Speedmaster Date that swaps the Moonwatch's typically refined monochromatic dial for a dial with a little more personality. Featuring a uniquely textured black dial with large luminous Arabic numeral hour markers and red accents, the ref. 3813.53.26’s display is tremendously special. Powered by an automatic movement within its 39mm stainless steel case and topped off with a black anodized aluminum bezel insert, this timepiece is a fusion of style and substance all in one.

THE DIAL
Boasting a black dial with a unique texture in its centre, the ref. 3813.53.26 adds a new visual to the Speedmaster's display with its yellow Arabic numerals and red accents.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Smaller than its full-sized counterpart, the Speedmaster Date enjoys a 39mm stainless steel case that is more wearable than the Speedmaster's 42mm case. However, it retains the collection's aesthetic and overall design thanks to its lyre lugs, familiar bracelet and overarching case shape.

Condition
Watch is in overall like-new condition. The case shows only light signs of wear or handling and still retains the original delivery plastic on the lugs. The case back retains its original sticker, showing some light wear, along with the original barcode sticker. Fitted with black leather strap with Omega steel pin buckle and comes with hangtag.
Our Perspective
A rare Speedmaster variant, that was made for the Japanese market, ref. 3813.53.26 offered a unique twist on the Speedmaster's iconic design that Omega collectors have since come to appreciate.
