Introduction
Famed as the watch that was first worn on the moon during the Apollo moon landings, the Omega Speedmaster has long been known as one of watchmaking's most iconic timepieces. However, while its claim to fame is legendary, it was not originally conceived as a watch for space. Instead, it was a watch designed for race car drivers, hence its name. Launched in the early 2000s and produced for the Japanese market, the ref. 3513.33 that we have here is a racing dial variant of the Speedmaster that swaps the Moonwatch's typically refined monochromatic dial for an off-white dial with a little more personality thanks to its bright red chronograph hands, orange Arabic numerals and black time-telling hands. Linked to the Speedmaster's lesser-known heritage, the ref. 3513.33 retains the Speedmaster’s aesthetic and design all while packing itself into a smaller case, with a 40mm diameter that allows this timepiece to be a wonderfully unique watch that will certainly be a fantastic addition to a Speedy fan's collection.

THE DIAL
Boasting an off-white dial, the ref. 3513.33 adds a new visual to the Speedmaster's display with its orange Arabic numerals, red chronograph hands and black time-telling hands.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Smaller than its full-sized counterpart, the Speedmaster 40 enjoys a 40mm stainless steel case that is more wearable than the Speedmaster's 42mm case. However, it retains the collection's aesthetic and overall design thanks to its lyre lugs, familiar bracelet and overarching case shape.

Condition
Watch is in excellent overall condition. Case shows light wear, with some minor surface scratches and marks visible. The dial is in excellent condition. Luminous material has aged to an orange tone, and appears darker than the hands. Bracelet is sized for a 7" wrist with 17 links, 4 of which are removable. There are 3 additional links included with the watch.
Our Perspective
A rare Speedmaster variant, that was made for the Japanese market, ref. 3513.33 offered a unique twist on the Speedmaster's iconic design that Omega collectors have since come to appreciate.
