Introduction
Introduced in 1969, the Omega Speedmaster Mark II represented the first major redesign of the legendary Speedmaster following the success of the Moonwatch during the space race of the 1960s. While retaining the trusted Lemania-based cal. 861 movement used in the Professional models, the Mark II embraced the bold, streamlined aesthetics of the emerging 1970s with its tonneau-shaped case and integrated profile. Among the various dial configurations produced, the so-called “Racing” variants are particularly sought after by collectors today. Designed with enhanced chronograph legibility in mind, these dials featured vivid colors and distinctive minute tracks inspired by motorsport timing instruments. Combining the technical pedigree of the Speedmaster with the experimental design language of the early 1970s, the Speedmaster Mark II Racing has become one of Omega’s most collectible vintage chronographs from the era.

THE DIAL
The exotic “Racing” dial is the defining feature of this reference, featuring vivid orange accents and a multicolored minute track designed to improve chronograph legibility during motorsport timing. The contrasting chronograph registers and bold color palette give the watch a distinctly dynamic appearance that perfectly captures the adventurous spirit of early-1970s chronograph design.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Measuring 41mm in diameter, Mark II’s distinctive tonneau-shaped construction, the case offers strong wrist presence while remaining highly wearable thanks to its streamlined profile.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
Watch is in overall excellent condition. The steel case shows surface scratches while remaining well defined, with the original finish still present. The case back displays worn engravings along with surface scratches and small nicks. The crown and pushers show light surface marks. The dial remains excellent, while the hands remain very clean. Crystal has some scratches on the surface. It is fitted with a steel bracelet showing surface marks and light play between the links. The bracelet is fitted with 18 links and fits approximately a 7” wrist.
Our Perspective
The Mark II Speedmaster tried to do for auto racing what the “Moon Watch” did for space exploration. It is a striking watch, with a beautiful dial and a muscular case, but it ultimately was not as commercially successful, making it a niche find for car enthusiasts.
