Introduction
Produced between 1968 and 1969, the Omega Speedmaster ref. 145.012-67 SP represents one of the final references powered by the legendary cal. 321 movement, widely regarded as one of the most important chronograph calibres in watchmaking history. Closely associated with NASA’s Apollo missions and the dawn of space exploration, the Speedmaster earned its enduring “Moonwatch” nickname after becoming the first watch worn on the lunar surface during the Apollo 11 mission in 1969. The ref. 145.012 is particularly significant within the Speedmaster lineage as the last reference to feature the cal. 321 before Omega transitioned to the cal. 861. Combining asymmetrical lyre-lug case architecture with the classic black tachymeter bezel and highly legible dial layout, the 145.012 remains a sought-after vintage Speedmaster references among collectors today.

THE DIAL
The original black dial features the classic chronograph layout with luminous hour markers and baton hands designed for maximum legibility. The evenly aged lume complements the watch’s overall vintage character, while the contrasting white printing and stepped subdials reinforce the highly functional aesthetic that helped define the Speedmaster as a professional instrument chronograph.

THE CONSTRUCTION
The stainless steel asymmetrical case remains unpolished and retains the strong twisted lyre lugs that characterize the classic Speedmaster design. Measuring 42mm in diameter, the case is paired with a fixed tachymeter bezel featuring the highly desirable “Dot Over 90” configuration, one of the most collectible bezel variations among vintage Speedmaster enthusiasts.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT

Condition
Watch is in overall excellent condition. The steel case has scratches and small nicks consistent with age, while the case back retains reasonably well-defined engravings. The “Dot Over 90” bezel has some scuffs and marks. The dial is excellent, and the hands show some marks and discoloration to the lume in the hour and minute hands. The watch is fitted with a steel Omega bracelet showing scratches and moderate play between the links. The bracelet is fitted with 20 links and fits approximately a 7 1/4” wrist. The ednpieces are mismatched, with one being a "47" and the other being "640".
Our Perspective
This “Pre-Moon” Speedmaster from 1968 has the great nerdy details you love to see: the "dot over 90” bezel, the legendary 321 movement, and the original No. 12 bracelet.
