Famed as the watch that was first worn on the moon during the Apollo moon landings from 1969 and into the 1970s, the Omega Speedmaster has long been known as one of watchmaking's most iconic timepieces. Such its level of notoriety, it has even secured its very own day on social media whereby owners of Omega Speedmasters will wear and post about their watches, Speedy Tuesday – a tradition created by Robert-Jan in 2012. To celebrate the 5th anniversary of this tradition, Omega launched a limited edition variant of the Speedmaster in 2017 with just 2012 pieces produced. Featuring some nods to Robert-Jan’s favourite Speedmaster that has been shared through the #SpeedyTuesday hashtag, Omega decided to take some inspiration from the Alaska Project III Speedmaster, a little-known about model with just 56 units made that were delivered to NASA for their Space Shuttle program after the re-certification in 1978. As such, the Speedy Tuesday limited edition that we have here features a revere panda dial, a first for the Speedmaster Professional, various engravings on its caseback, and a concentric finish on its white subdials – subdials that feature plenty of luminescent material, so that they shine bright in the dark, making the limited edition Speedy Tuesday Speedmaster fun way to celebrate an organic social media movement.

The watch is in overall near-mint condition. There are some signs of wear on the case and caseback as well as some light scratches on the backs of the lugs. It is fitted with an Omega fabric strap with steel Omega hardware, showing light signs of use. The watch comes complete with its box and papers, tool, leather pouch, and a spare leather strap.

A nod to the Speedmaster's passionate community and its role in catapulting the Speedmaster to its heights as one of the most iconic tool watches ever, the Speedy Tuesday limited edition was a labour of love between Robert-Jan Broer and Omega.
