Introduction
Following Omega’s contribution in the safe return of the “successful failure” Apollo 13 mission (after the mission had to be aborted), NASA awarded Omega with their Snoopy Award on the 5th of October, 1970. This was for their exceptional contribution to the success of what would have otherwise been a tragedy should the crew not have had their Speedmasters with them to time their re-entry into Earth’s orbit. To celebrate this honor, Omega released the “Blue Snoopy” Speedmaster ref. 3578.51.00 in 2003. The Blue Snoopy features Snoopy in a blue astronaut suit (the "Eyes on the Stars" patch) within the running seconds subdial at 9 o’clock and on its caseback, to separate itself from Omega’s other Speedmaster offerings, and features 5441 pieces within its limited run. This specific number is in reference to the length of the Apollo 13 mission — 142 hours, 54 minutes and 41 seconds. An iconic watch that has spawned a collection of Snoopy Speedmasters, the Blue Snoopy is favored for its position as the first and most understated of the three models produced so far.

THE DIAL
Entirely consistent with the Speedmaster Professional "Moonwatch" at the time, the Blue Snoopy ref. 3578.51.00's only distinguishing feature on its dial is the "Eyes on the Stars" patch found in its 9 o'clock subdial.

THE CASEBACK
In place of the Omega Hippocampus normally found on the Speedmaster's caseback, the Blue Snoopy ref. 3578.51.00 features the engravings: Ω OMEGA – The Moon Watch – Snoopy Award – Limited – Edition – xxxx/5441 and the iconic "Eyes on the Stars" patch at its center.

Our Perspective
Iconic in its position as the first-ever Snoopy Speedmaster, the ref. 3578.51.00 has grown to represent perhaps one of Omega's most important contributions to spaceflight - a true saviour in a life or death scenario.
