Omega Speedmaster Professional Silver Snoopy Award 45th Anniversary

How do I bid? Start here

Introduction

Following Omega’s contribution to the safe return of the “successful failure” Apollo 13 mission (after the mission had to be aborted), NASA awarded Omega with their Silver Snoopy Award on the 5th of October, 1970. This was for their exceptional contribution to the success of what would have otherwise been a tragedy should the crew not have had their Speedmasters with them to time their re-entry into Earth’s orbit. To celebrate this honor, Omega released the “Blue Snoopy” Speedmaster ref. 3578.51.00 in 2003. The Blue Snoopy features Snoopy in a blue astronaut suit (the "Eyes on the Stars" patch) within the running seconds subdial at 9 o’clock and on its caseback, to separate itself from Omega’s other Speedmaster offerings, and features 5441 pieces within its limited run. This specific number is in reference to the length of the Apollo 13 mission — 142 hours, 54 minutes, and 41 seconds.

Since that first limited edition run, Omega have since introduced two more limited edition Snoopy Speedmasters, with the ref. 311.32.42.30.04.003 that we have here standing as the second version that was launched. Debuting in 2015, on the 45th anniversary of that groundbreaking journey, Omega introduced the ref. 311.32.42.30.04.003 as a limited edition collection with just 1,970 pieces - a reference to the year of the Apollo 13 mission. Having sold out immediately, this whimsical timepiece instantaneously became one of the most coveted modern Speedmasters ever released with its bright white dial featuring a cartoon-accurate depiction of Snoopy laying asleep on the 9 o'clock subdial, much like how he is known to sleep across the roof of his doghouse. In addition, Snoopy is found on the caseback with his briefcase in hand, further deepening this iconic timepiece's link to the beloved character and Omega's incredibly important contribution to NASA and the lives of Apollo 13's astronauts.

Our Perspective

The 45th Anniversary Snoopy Edition is undeniably one of the best modern watches produced by Omega. It's an ideal union of the historical association Omega has with space exploration, and its modern design language. As is well known, these watches are not easy to come by, especially one in such flawless shape. This is an excellent chance for all types of collectors to acquire a highly desirable watch in close to new condition.
